Softball Falls to Catholic on Senior Day

HUNTINGDON, Pa.- The Juniata softball team fell 7-6 and 5-2 against Catholic in a conference doubleheader on senior day.

In game one, Catholic scored the first two runs to take an early lead until Juniata went on to score two runs of their own in the third inning. Jennifer Carthew (New Paris, Pa. / Chestnut-Ridge HS) singled to center field and then advanced to second on a ground out.  Allie Baney (State College, Pa. / State College Area) was walked. Kerigan Ammerman (Alexandria, Pa. / Juniata Valley) singled to center field advancing Carthew and Baney. Molly Ulrich (Homer, N.Y. / Homer Central) reached on a fielder's choice and Ammerman and Baney advanced. Then Abby Ebright (Harrisburg, Pa. / Central Dauphin East HS) singled to left field and advanced on the throw, Ulrich advanced and Ammerman and Baney crossed home plate. 

In the top of the fifth, the Cardinals scored another run taking a one run lead over the Eagles. In the bottom of the fifth the Eagles scored three runs to take their first lead of the game. Ammerman reached on a fielder's choice. Ulrich doubled to right center and Ammerman scored. Ebright then homered also bringing in Ulrich. The Cardinals went on to score four runs in the top of the sixth. In the bottom of the sixth Juniata scored one more run. Alyssa Shedlock (State College, Pa. / State College) singled to center field and then advanced to second. Shedlock then advanced to third on a passed ball. Brooke Ridenour (Thurmont, Md. / Catoctin) singled to right center bringing in Shedlock. 

Ebright went 2-4 with a home run and four RBI. 

In game two, Juniata scored the first two runs of the game in the bottom of the second. Alicia Regnault (Bridgewater, N.J. / Bridgewater Raritan) singled to center field. Shedlock singled to left field and Regnault advanced. Chrisi Lerchen (Annville, Pa. / Annville-Cleona) singled to first base, advancing Shedlock and Regnualt. Lerchen, Shedlock, and Regnault all advanced on a passed ball with Regnault crossing home plate. Carthew reached first on an error by the third basewoman, Lerchen advanced and Shedlock scored. Catholic went on to score the next five runs to defeat Juniata 5-2. 

The Eagles will host Mt. Aloysius on Thursday April 26th for their final home game starting at 3:00PM.
