Softball Swept at Penn St.- Harrisburg

HARRISBURG, Pa.- The Juniata softball fell 6-5 and 5-4 at Penn St.-Harrisburg in a doubleheader on a cold Tuesday afternoon.

In game one, Penn St.- Harrisburg homered in the second inning, Juniata then took the lead in the top of the fifth making the score, 3-1. Alicia Regnault (Bridgewater, N.J. / Bridgewater Raritan) reached first on an error by the right fielder. With a SAC from Brooke Ridenour (Thurmont, Md. / Catoctin), Regnault advanced to second. Delaney Nevius (Harrisburg,Pa. / CD East High School) singled and Regnault advanced to third. Kerigan Ammerman (Alexandria, Pa. / Juniata Valley) singled, Nevius advanced and Regnault crossed home plate. Allie Baney (State College, Pa. / State College Area) singled and Ammermand and Nevius advanced. Alyssa Shedlock (State College, Pa. / State College) then singled, advancing Baney, Ammerman, and Nevius. The Lions scored a run in the fifth and sixth innings to tie up the game at 3-3. 

The Eagles scored two more runs in the seventh to take the lead but it wasn't enough to hold off the Lions. Penn St.-Harrisburg scored two runs in the seventh to tie it up again and then one run in the eighth to win the game, 6-5. Baney was walked. Shedlock was hit by a pitch advancing Baney. Abby Ebright (Harrisburg, Pa. / Central Dauphin East HS) doubled advancing Baney and Shedlock across home plate. 

Ebright went 2-4 with a double, two stolen bases and two RBI. Baney went 2-3 with a triple and one run scored. Baney also recorded her 100th career hit for the Eagles. 

In game two, the Lions scored four runs in the second inning. Regnault singled and then stole second. Jennifer Carthew (New Paris, Pa. / Chestnut-Ridge HS) was walked and Regnault advanced to third on a passed ball. Carthew then stole second. Nevius singled and Regnault and Carthew each scored a run for the Eagles. 

In the top of the fifth, the Eagles scored two more runs to tie up the game at 4-4. Baney homered. Shedlock singled. Ebright reached first on an error by the third basewoman and Shedlock advanced. Regnault was walked, advancing Ebright and Shedlock. Regnault and Ebright advanced on a passed ball and Shedlock advanced across home plate on a passed ball. The Lions went on to score the final run of the game in the bottom of the fifth to defeat the Eagles, 5-4. 

Nevius went 2-3 with two RBI. 

The Eagles are back in action Saturday as they host Catholic for a conference doubleheader at 1:00PM.
