Softball Drops Landmark Conference Doubleheader to Susquehanna

SELINSGROVE, Pa.- The Juniata softball team fell to Susquehanna in a Landmark Conference doubleheader, Saturday afternoon.

In game one, Susquehanna got on the board first scoring three in the first inning and three in the third. In the top of the sixth, Juniata cut their deficit in half by scoring three runs of their own. Brooke Ridenour (Thurmont, Md. / Catoctin) was walked. Alyssa Shedlock (State College, Pa. / State College) singled through the left side and Ridenour advanced. Kerigan Ammerman (Alexandria, Pa. / Juniata Valley) doubled to right center, Shedlock advanced and Ridenour crossed home plate. Ammerman then advanced to third and Shedlock scored on a throwing error by the catcher. Abby Ebright (Harrisburg, Pa. / Central Dauphin East HS) singled to right field and Ammerman scored. In the bottom of the sixth, the Riverhawks scored two more runs making the final score, 8-3. 

Ammerman went 2-3 with one run scored and an RBI. 

In game two, Susquehanna scored three runs in the first inning and four runs in the second. The Eagles then cameback to score three runs in the top of the fourth to cut their deficit, 3-7. Ammerman was walked. Ebright doubled down the left field line and Ammerman advanced to third. Jennifer Carthew (New Paris, Pa. / Chestnut-Ridge HS) reached first on a fielder's choice, Ebright advanced, and Ammerman scored advancing on a fielding error by the pitcher. Allie Baney (State College, Pa. / State College Area) reached on a fielder's choice, Carthew advanced to third, and Ebright scored, advancing on a throwing error by the third basewoman. Baney then stole second and Carthew scored. 

In the top of the fifth, the Eagles scored one more run. Molly Ulrich (Homer, N.Y. / Homer Central) was walked and then stole second. Chrisi Lerchen (Annville, Pa. / Annville-Cleona) doubled to left center and Ulrich crossed home plate. In the bottom of the fifth, the Riverhawks scored five more runs, defeating the Eagles 12-4. 

Lerchen went 1-3 with a double and an RBI. Ammerman went 1-2 with one run scored. 

The Eagles return to action April 17th as they travel to Penn St.-Harrisburg for a doubleheader starting at 3:00PM.
