Softball Splits with Rangers on Lizzi Bartosik Haas Memorial Day

HUNTINGDON, Pa. – The Juniata softball team split their doubleheader against conference foe, Drew University. The Eagles took game one 7-4 and dropped the second 14-4.

Molly Ulrich (Homer, NY/Homer Central) had a big day at the plate in the first game, going 3-4 with a double and triple, scoring twice and sending in a RBI. Alicia Regnault (Bridgewater, NJ/Bridgewater Raritan) was 3-3 with a RBI.

Juniata was first to get on the board, with Chrisi Lerchen (Annville, Pa./Annville-Cleona) doubling to left field to start the first inning. Alyssa Shedlock (State College, Pa./State College) singled to left, and Kerigan Ammerman (Alexandria, Pa./Juniata Valley) followed up with a single up the middle to send Lerchen home. Regnault sent a ball to left, allowing for the second run of the game to cross the plate.

The Eagles put up another run in the third when Ulrich tripled to right field and scored on an error by third basewoman. Drew scored their first two runs of the game in the top of the fifth, but JC countered with three more runs to go up 6-2. Shedlock doubled and reached home after singles from Ulrich and Ammerman. Regnault and Jennifer Carthew (New Paris, Pa./Chestnut-Ridge HS) both singled to allow for Ulrich to score and Brooke Ridenour (Thurmont, Md./Catoctin) flied out to center to send in another RBI.

In the sixth inning, Juniata scored another run off singles from Lerchen and Ulrich. The Rangers attempted to battle back in the top of the seventh, scoring two, but the Eagles were able to lock down and take the game 7-4.

Drew gathered momentum in game two, putting up 11 runs in the first inning. JC was able to score one in the bottom of the inning, trailing 11-1 to start the game.

The Eagles were able to score three more runs in the fourth and fifth innings, but the team was unable to cut the deficit and dropped the game 14-4 in five.

Between games, Juniata honored the memory of a fallen Eagle, Lizzi Bartosik Haas '06. Several of her former teammates were present to take part in a moment of remembrance alongside JC's current players and coaches.
