Softball Suffers Three Losses

CLERMONT, Fla. - The Juniata softball suffered three losses, Friday against Manchester, Calvin, and Bowdoin. 

The Eagles fell to Manchester, 9-5 in the first game of the day. The Spartans got on the board first with a run in the first and then two runs in the second. In the bottom of the third, Juniata put up two runs of their own. Brooke Ridenour (Thurmont, Md. / Catoctin) doubled down the left line, then Jennifer Carthew (New Paris, Pa. / Chestnut-Ridge HS) grounded to to second base, advancing Ridenour to third. Alyssa Shedlock (State College, Pa. / State College) doubled to center, advacing Ridenour across home plate. Molly Ulrich (Homer, N.Y. / Homer Central) then reached first on an error by the left fielder, allowing for Shedlock to cross home. 

In the bottom of the second, Juniata got in three more runs, but it was not enough to defeat the Spartans. First, Kerigan Ammerman (Alexandria, Pa. / Juniata Valley) singled to center field, advancing both Shedlock and Carthew which also allowed Alicia Regnault (Bridgewater, N.J. / Bridgewater Raritan) to score. The following play, Ulrich singled to left field, Ammerman and Shedlock advanced, and Carthew crossed home plate. The final play of the game, Abby Ebright (Harrisburg, Pa. / Central Dauphin East HS) reached first on a fielder's choice. Ammerman advanced to third and Shedlock scored the final run of the game. 

In game two, the Eagles fell to Calvin, 8-1. The Knights scored a run in the first and one in the second inning to start off the game. In the top of the fourth, Ammerman singled through the right side and then stole second, advancing to third on a throwing error by the pitcher. The following play, Abby Ebright was out at first after a sacrifice bunt, allowing Ammerman to score. Calvin got six more runs in the bottom of the fourth, the rest of the game was scoreless. 

The final game of the day, Juniata fell to Bowdoin, 11-3. In the top of the second Bowdoin got in five runs before Juniata answered back with three runs of their own. Allie Baney (State College, Pa. / State College Area) singled to the short stop then Carthew singled third base advancing Baney to second. Shedlock was next up to bat, she homered also getting Carthew and Baney across home plate. In the fifth and sixth innings, the Polar Bears scored six more runs. 

The Eagles finish up The Spring Games Tournament tomorrow in Clermont, Fla. They will face Loras at 11:30AM and Middlebury at 4:30PM.
