Softball Takes Down #14 Babson

CLERMONT, Fla.- The Juniata softball team defeated Babson College, 6-1 on the second day of The Spring Games Tournament.

Kerigan Ammerman (Alexandria, Pa. / Juniata Valley) started off the second inning with a double to right center. Ammerman was able to score after Molly Ulrich (Homer, N.Y. / Homer Central) grounded out to short stop and Alicia Regnault (Bridgewater, N.J. / Bridgewater Raritan) grounded out to the catcher. In the bottom of the third inning, Babson answered back with a run of their own after scoring on a wild pitch. 

With the game tied at 1-1, the Eagles put up two more runs in top of the fourth. After Ulrich was walked, Regnault doubled to right center, sending Ulrich home. Brooke Ridenour (Thurmont, Md. / Catoctin) followed with a doubled to left center allowing Regnault to cross home plate for another run. After the fourth inning the Eagles were up 3-1. 

At the top of the fifth, Juniata brought in two more runs to extend their lead. Alyssa Shedlock (State College, Pa. / State College) singled to left center and then advanced to second on a wild pitch. Abby Ebright (Harrisburg, Pa. / Central Dauphin East HS), singled down the right field line, advancing Shedlock home. Ammerman singled to right field, advancing Ebright to second and Ulrich doubled to left field to clear the bases. 

Ulrich went 1-2 with a double, two RBI, a walk and a run scored. Regnault went 1-3 with a double, two RBI and a run scored. Ammerman went 2-4 with a double and two runs scored while Shedlock went 2-4 with a double, scoring one. 

Juniata's second game against Wisconsin-Oshkosh has been postponed due to thunderstorms. The Eagles are scheduled to play on Thursday at 9:00AM and 2:00PM. They will face D'Youville and St. Lawrence.
