Softball Opens With a Pair of Losses to Bearcats

HUNTINGDON, Pa.- The Juniata softball team dropped both ends of their home opener against St. Vincent, falling 9-1 (6 innings) in the opener and 10-1 in the second game.

The Bearcats put up five runs in the first, all on home runs. Alyssa Shedlock (State College, Pa./State College) drove in Kerigan Ammerman (Alexandria, Pa./Juniata Valley) with a sac fly to left to get one back for the Eagles. The Bearcats scored three runs in the fifth and one more on a double in the sixth to end the game.

Ammerman went 1-3 with a double and a run scored while Chrisi Lerchen (Annville, Pa./Annville-Cleona) went 1-2 with a double.

The second game opened with the pitchers putting up zeros through the first three innings. The Bearcats got on the board with a two-run homer and a RBI single in the forth. They tacked on one more in the fifth before going for six runs in the seventh.  Abby Ebright (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin East) drove in Ammerman to get JC on the board.

Ammerman went 2-4 with a double a run scored, Ebright went 2-4 with a double and a RBI. Shedlock went 1-3 with a double. Jennifer Carthew (New Paris, Pa./Chestnut- Ridge HS) went 1-2 with a walk.

The Eagles travel to Florida and will face Fredonia, Monday at 9:00 a.m.
