Softball Drops Two to Catholic in Conference Play

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Eagles dropped both games in a double header against Catholic University in conference play on Thursday. The team fell 2-0 in game one and 4-2 in game two.

Freshman Anna Baran (Tyrone, Pa./Tyrone) took the loss in the first game, giving up five hits, two runs, and walking three. The Eagles had no errors but were outhit 5 to 2.  Allie Baney (State College, Pa./State College Area) and Jordan Wahrenberger (Shamong, NJ/Seneca) had the team's only two hits.

In game two, the Cardinals scored right out of the gates in the first inning. Catholic scored another run in the bottom of the third to put the team up 2-0 off of two hits and an error and put another run up in the fourth off one hit and an error.

Juniata's first run came in the sixth. Baney singled through the left side and proceeded to steal second. Alyssa Shedlock (State College, Pa./State College Area) singled to center field to send Baney home.

The Cardinals answered back with another run of their own in the sixth. The Eagles attempted to rally back in the seventh after a walk and a string of hits from Alicia Regnault (Bridgewater, NJ/Bridgewater Raritan) and Brooke Ridenour (Thurmont, MD/Catoctin) but could only get one run on the board, ultimately falling short. 

Chrisi Lerchen (Annville, Pa./Annville-Cleona) took the loss in game two giving up four runs, nine hits, and one walk. Lerchen struck out two.

The Eagles return to action on Sat., April 29 at home against Elizabethtown with a start time of 1:00pm.
