Softball Splits at Altoona

ALTOONA, Pa.- Juniata softball traveled 36 miles west for a non-conference doubleheader with Penn State Altoona on Tuesday afternoon. The Lions won the first game 9-1 in six innings while the Eagles took the second game 11-0 in five innings.

 

Anna Baran (Tyrone, Pa./Tyrone) started Game 2 for Juniata and held the Lions to just four hits. She walked three batters and struck out two.

 

Juniata scored three runs in the first, second, and third innings to build up a 9-0 lead. The Eagles tacked on two more runs in the fifth on a Molly Ulrich (Homer, NY/Homer Central) two-run triple.

 

Ulrich collected three hits, one run, and three runs batted in. Alyssa Shedlock (State College, Pa./State College) finished 2-for-3 with a double, two runs scored, and three runs batted in. Abby Ebright (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin East) went 2-for-2 with a runs scored and two RBI. Allie Baney (State College, Pa./State College) had a double, a run scored, and two RBI.

 

In the first game, Shedlock's RBI single in the top of the first gave JC a 1-0. The Eagle lead held until Penn-State Altoona scored twice in the bottom of the fourth to go up 2-1. The Lions broke the game open with a five-run fifth inning.

 

Kelsey Doell (Burlington, NJ/Doane Academy) pitched 1.2 innings and surrendered four hits and five runs (one earned). Jennifer Carthew (New Paris, Pa./Chestnut Ridge) took the loss with two runs (one earned) given up on four hits and one walk.

 

The Eagles (14-18) travel to the nation's capital on Saturday for a Landmark doubleheader with Catholic. Start times for both games are at 1:00 and 3:00 p.m.
