HUNTINGDON, Pa.- Juniata softball hosted Trinity (D.C.) in a non-conference doubleheader on Thursday afternoon at West End Field. The Eagles won the first game 13-1 and the second 20-1 in five innings.
Alyssa Fasolo (Altoona, Pa/Altoona Area HS) got the start in the circle for the first game. She gave up just one hit in four innings while walking one and striking out a career-high eight batters. Maddie Garrick (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Mechanicsburg) came in for one inning of relief giving up an unearned run and three walks while striking out two.
Kerigan Ammerman (Alexandria, Pa./Juniata Valley) led off for the Eagles with a triple to right field in the first inning. Allie Baney (State College, Pa./State College) followed with a homerun to left center to give the Eagles a 2-0 lead. Chrisi Lerchen (Annville, Pa./Annville-Cleona) singled in a run to put JC ahead 3-0. Juniata's big inning came in the second with seven runs coming across.
Ammerman was 2-for-2 with two runs scored and a run batted in. Baney finished 2-for-3 with two runs scored and two batted in. Lerchen went 2-for-2 with a run scored and three runs batted in. Jennifer Carthew (New Paris, Pa./Chestnut Ridge) picked up two hits with a triple, a run scored, and two runs batted in.
Garrick started Game 2. She struck out four and walked just one while not giving up a hit. Kelsey Doell (Burlington, NJ/Doane Academy) pitched two innings and surrendered one earned run on two hits while striking out three.
The Eagles led 1-0 after one inning of play on an Alyssa Shedlock (State College, Pa./State College) RBI single. JC broke the game open as it scored 13 runs in the bottom portion of the second inning.
Every starting player had a hit in the game. Carthew had a team-best three hits while scoring two runs and bringing two across home plate. Juniata had six doubles overall with Baney tallying two. Abby Ebright (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin East) (2-for-4) and Alicia Regnault (Bridgewater, NJ./Bridgewater Raritan) (2-for-2) both had four-RBI performances. Jordan Wahrenberger (Shamong, NJ/Seneca) (2-for-2) hit her second homerun of the season.
Juniata hosts Susquehanna this Saturday at West End Field in a Landmark doubleheader. Game times will be at 1:00 and 3:00 p.m.
