HUNTINGDON, Pa.- Juniata softball hosted Dickinson in a non-conference doubleheader on Tuesday afternoon at West End Field. Freshman pitcher Anna Baran (Tyrone, Pa./Tyrone) tossed a two-hit shutout for the Eagles as they won the first game 4-0.

Baran surrendered just one extra base hit, a double in the seventh inning. She walked four batters and struck out three.

Baran also got help from her defense. With JC ahead 2-0 in the top of the fourth, Dickinson threatened to put runs on the board. The Red Devils had runners on first and third with two outs. The inning ended, however, when catcher Alicia Regnault (Bridgewater, NJ/Bridgewater Raritan) picked off Nicole Torlincasi off of third base.

The Red Devils looked to rebound in the top of the sixth with runners at second and third with one out. Baran got Torlincasi to fly out to center and struck out Nicole Clayton to end the rally.

Juniata added to their lead in its portion on the sixth. Alyssa Shedlock (State College, Pa./State College) led off with a double to left center and Amy Chen (Philadelphia, Pa./Science Leadership Academy) came in to pinch run. Abby Ebright (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin East) singled up the middle to score Chen. With two outs, Jennifer Carthew (New Paris, Pa./Chestnut Ridge) singled through the right side to score Ebright as Juniata increased its lead to 4-0.

Dickinson led off the seventh with an Alicia Lane double to right field. That was all the Red Devils could muster as Baran induced a groundout and struck out consecutive batters to end the game.

Shedlock was 2-for-3 with two doubles, a run scored, and a run batted in. Carthew was also 2-for-3 with a run batted in. Kerigan Ammerman (Alexandria, Pa./Juniata Valley) batted 1-for-3 scoring a run and stealing a base.

Game 2 was a pitcher's duel as Juniata starter Rachael Bernier (Bellefonte, Pa./Bellefonte) and Dickinson starter Madison Milaszewski faced off. The two teams were scoreless through five innings of play. The Red Devils scored with one out in the top of the sixth to go ahead 1-0. With runners on first and second and no outs, the Eagles defense was able to turn a double play to prevent any more runs from scoring.

Dickinson added to their lead in the seventh as Clayton hit a two-run homerun to centerfield to make it 3-0. The Eagles managed to get a runner on base in the bottom half of the inning but were thwarted in their comeback efforts as the Red Devils came out with the win.

Bernier pitched all seven innings for the Eagles. She gave up three runs on seven hits and struck out one batter.

Carthew was 2-for-3 and had Juniata's only extra base hit in the game which was a double in the third inning. Chrisi Lerchen (Annville, Pa./Annville-Cleona) and Jordan Wahrenberger (Watchung, NJ/Seneca) were both 1-for-3 while Brooke Ridenour (Thurmont, Md./Catoctin) was 1-for-2.

Juniata (11-15) hosts Trinity (D.C.) on Thursday at West End Field. Game times for the doubleheader are 3:00 and 5:00 p.m.
