HUNTINGDON, Pa.- Juniata softball hosted Wilson in a non-conference doubleheader on Wednesday afternoon at West End Field. The Phoenix won both games by scores of 3-0 and 9-1.

 

Rachael Bernier (Bellefonte, Pa./Bellefonte) got the start for the Eagles in the circle in Game 1. She went the distance and gave up eight hits, three runs (two earned), walked one, and struck out one.

 

Kerigan Ammerman (Alexandria, Pa./Juniata Valley) was 2-for-3 at the plate with a double. Brooke Ridenour (Thurmont, Md./Catoctin) went 2-for-3 with a stolen base.

 

In Game 2, the Phoenix plated a run in the first inning to go ahead 1-0. Juniata answered in the second inning. Alyssa Shedlock (State College, Pa./State College) doubled to left center to lead off. Allie Baney (State College, Pa./State College) popped up to first base for the first out. Jennifer Carthew (New Paris, Pa./Chestnut Ridge) sacrificed to move Shedlock to third. Ridenour then came up and singled up the middle to score Shedlock as the Eagles knotted the score at 1-1.

 

Wilson scored seven times in the third to break the game open and lead 8-1. The Phoenix added another run in the fifth and the Eagles went down in order to end the game.

 

Shedlock finished 2-for-2 with a double and a run scored. Ammerman was 1-for-3 and stole a base.

 

Carthew started and went three innings. She was tagged for five earned runs on seven hits with two walks and struck out three. Chrisi Lerchen (Annville, Pa./Annville-Cleona) came in for three innings of relief and surrendered one earned run on three hits with one walk.

 

Juniata returns to Landmark play this Saturday when it travels to New Jersey to play Drew. The doubleheader begins at 1:00 with the second game starting at 3:00 p.m.
