Eagles Drop Florida Doubleheader Finale

CLERMONT, Fla.- The Juniata softball team wrapped up its weeklong Florida trip on Friday morning with games against Husson and Oneonta State. JC was bested by Husson in the first game 5-2 and fell to the Red Dragons in the second game 11-4.

 

Husson got on the board first in the second inning as Kylie Kennedy led off with a home run to left field. Juniata took the lead in the in its portion of the fourth. With runners on second and third with no outs, Alyssa Shedlock (State College, Pa./State College) lifted a ball to left field to score Rachael Bernier (Bellefonte, Pa./Bellefonte Area). Allie Baney (State College, Pa./State College) followed with a sacrifice fly of her own to plate Brooke Ridenour (Thurmont, Md./Catoctin) and the lead swung to JC, 2-1. Husson added a run in fifth and three in the sixth to complete the scoring.

 

Chrisi Lerchen (Annville, Pa./Annville-Cleona) pitched seven innings. She gave up nine hits, five runs (four earned) and two walks. She struck out two batters.

 

Baney was 2-for-3 at the plate with an RBI. Kerrigan Ammerman (Alexandria, Pa./Juniata Valley) had the only extra base hit for the Eagles (double) and finished 1-for-4.

 

Against Oneonta State, Juniata took a 2-0 lead in the second inning. Jordan Wahrenberger (Shamong, NJ/Seneca) smacked a two-run single up the middle to bring two runs across home.

 

The Red Dragons scored six times in the bottom of the third to go ahead 6-2. JC was able to halve the deficit in the fourth inning to make the score 6-3. Oneonta added to its lead with runs in the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings to hold off the Eagles.

 

Lerchen went 2-for-2 at the plate. Wahrenberger was 1-for-3 with two RBIs. Baney had a triple.

 

Juniata (4-6) begins Landmark Conference play next weekend as it hosts Scranton. The doubleheader begins at 1:00 with the second game starting around 3:00 p.m.
