HUNTINGDON, Pa.- Juniata softball hosted first place Moravian on Saturday afternoon in a doubleheader at West End Field. The #19 Greyhounds won both games by the score of 8-0.

 

In the first game, the Eagles were limited to one hit. That came from Chrisi Lerchen (Annville, Pa./Annville-Cleona) in the bottom of the fourth on a single to left field.

 

Moravian led 6-0 after the first inning. Starting pitcher Maddie Garrick (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Mechanicsburg) was able to settle down the Greyhounds were held scoreless for three innings. Moravian did score once in the fifth and sixth innings to complete the scoring.

 

Garrick gave up eight runs (seven earned) on six hits and walked four. She struck out five batters.

 

The second game saw the Greyhounds score four runs in the top of the second to lead 4-0. They would add one in the third, two in the fourth, and one in the fifth.

 

JC had four hits. Abby Ebright (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin East) had two for the Eagles. The other hits belonged to Allie Baney (State College, Pa./State College) and Holly Bettinger (Hummelstown, Pa./Lower Dauphin).

 

Lerchen started in the circle and went 3.2 innings. She surrendered seven runs (six earned) on six hits and walked five. Garrick came in for 1.1 innings and gave up four hits and one earned run. She struck out one batter.

 

In between games, the Eagles honored their three graduating seniors Bettinger, Paige Dennison (East Berlin, Pa./Bermudian Springs), and Brooke Walls (Mifflinburg, Pa./Mifflinburg).

 

The Eagles will next host Penn State Harrisburg this coming Tuesday in a double header starting at 3:00 p.m. The second game will begin around 5:00 p.m.
