Eagles Fall to Bearcats in Doubleheader

HUNTINGDON, Pa.- Juniata softball hosted St. Vincent College in a non-conference doubleheader on Thursday afternoon at West End Field. The Bearcats won 9-1 in the first game and 20-3 in the second game.

 

In Game 1, the Eagles scored their lone run in the bottom of the fourth inning. Jennifer Carthew (New Paris, Pa./Chestnut Ridge) grounded out to lead off but Allie Baney (State College, Pa./State College Area) and Abby Ebright (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin East) both singled to put runners on first and second. Kerigan Ammerman (Alexandria, Pa./Juniata Valley) followed with a single to right field to score Baney and advanced to second on the throw from the outfield. Lindsey Kosicki (Patton, Pa./Cambria Heights) and Natalya Sizdahkhani (Gaithersburg, Md./Quince Orchard) both struck out swinging to end the inning.

 

Starting pitcher Sarah Sotelo (Fairfax, Va./Paul VI Catholic) went 2.1 innings and gave up five runs on five hits with three batters walked and struck out one. Alyssa Fasolo (Altoona, Pa./Altoona Area) made her second appearance of the season on the mound and pitched 3.2 innings with five hits given up, four runs (two earned) surrendered while walking one batter.

 

In Game 2, the Eagles scored all three runs in the bottom of the fifth. Ammerman led off with her second homerun of the season. Brooke Walls (Mifflinburg, Pa./Mifflinburg) later doubled to centerfield to bring home a run. Paige Dennison (East Berlin, Pa./Bermudian Springs) followed with a triple down the right field line to score Walls.

 

Juniata returns to Landmark Conference play on Saturday as they travel to Madison, N.J. to take on Drew. Game One of the doubleheader begins at 1 p.m.
