Softball Sweeps Pitt-Greensburg With Offensive Display

GREENSBURG, Pa.- Juniata softball outscored Pitt-Greensburg 27-5 in two games as the Eagles swept the Panthers on Tuesday afternoon. JC won 9-4 in the first game and 18-1 in five innings in the second game.

 

In Game One, Jennifer Carthew (New Paris, Pa./Chestnut Ridge) notched her first collegiate win as she went seven innings and gave up seven hits, four earned runs one walk and struck out three batters. She also contributed at the plate with a 3-for-4 performance, one run scored, and two runs batted in. Carthew also stole a base.

 

Juniata scored all nine runs in the second inning. Kerigan Ammerman (Alexandria, Pa./Juniata Valley) led off with a double to centerfield. Abby Ebright (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin East) singled and moved to second on the throw, which put Ammerman on third. Alicia Regnault (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater Raritan) reached on a fielder's choice and Ammerman was able to beat the throw home as she scored. Brooke Walls (Mifflinburg, Pa./Mifflinburg) reached on a fielder's choice that got Ebright out at home. Paige Dennison's (East Berlin, Pa./Bermudian Springs) double brought in two runs and Allie Baney (State College, Pa./State College Area) reached on an error that scored Walls.

 

Carthew helped her cause with a two-run RBI to make it 6-0 Juniata. She would later score on an error as JC led 7-0.

 

The Panthers added a run in the second and two in the third inning. A solo homerun from Marley Lafferty cut the Eagle lead to 9-4 in the sixth. Pitt-Greensburg would not threaten in the seventh as the Eagles picked up the win.

 

Holly Bettinger (Hummelstown, Pa./Lower Dauphin) was also 3-for-4 and scored one run. Walls finished 2-for-4 with one run scored and two runs batted in.

 

JC jumped on the Panthers in the second game with a 14-run third inning. Highlighting the offensive burst was Ebright's first homerun of her career.

 

Sarah Sotelo (Fairfax, Va./Paul VI Catholic HS) picked up her third win of the season. She gave up five hits, one unearned run, three walks, and struck out one batter.

 

Juniata begins Landmark conference play this Friday as it hosts Susquehanna in a doubleheader at West End Field. Game One starts at 1 p.m. with the second game beginning around 3 p.m.
