Holly Bettinger picked up the win for the Eagles in their 12-2 win over Mount Aloysius
Holly Bettinger picked up the win for the Eagles in their 12-2 win over Mount Aloysius

CRESSON, PA- Juniata softball broke out of its slump in the second game of a doubleheader as the offense put up 12 runs in a 12-2 win over Mount Aloysius on Tuesday afternoon. It was the second-most runs that the Eagles have scored all season.

Holly Bettinger (Hummelstown, PA/Lower Dauphin) was effective both at the plate and on the mound. She pitched five innings and gave up just three hits, two earned runs, and one walk. Bettinger batted 2-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBIs. She also hit her fourth home run of the season.

Paige Dennison (East Berlin, PA/Bermudian Springs) was 2-for-4 with a double, triple, two runs scored, and two RBIs. Katie Schroeder (Kempton, PA/Kutztown) hit 2-for-2 with a double, three runs, and three RBIs. Chrisi Lerchen (Annville, PA/Annville-Cleona) also had a double and finished 1-for-2 with a run scored and a RBI.

The big inning for JC came in the fifth inning. Bettinger led off with a single and Brooke Walls (Mifflinburg, PA/Mifflinburg) followed with another single. Lindsey Kosicki (Patton, PA/Cambria Heights) was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Schroeder then hit a bases clearing double to bring in three runs. After Lerchen popped up to the shortstop, Brooke Ridenour (Thurmont, MD/Catoctin) singled. Kerigan Ammerman (Alexandria, PA/Juniata Valley) reached on an error by the shortstop and Schroeder scored. Dennison's triple cleared the bases again and Alicia Regnault's (Bridgewater, NJ/Bridgewater Raritan) groundout brought in Dennison.

Game 1 was the complete opposite as the Eagles were defeated 13-1. Dennison and Kosicki both were 1-for-2 at the plate.

The Eagles return to West End Field this Thursday when they host LaRoche in a non-conference doubleheader. Game 1 will start at 3 p.m. with Game 2 beginning around 5 p.m.
