WASHINGTON, D.C. – It was a tough day at the plate for Juniata College softball and Landmark Conference rival Catholic University took advantage, sweeping the doubleheader, 8-0 (5) and 4-2, Sunday afternoon.  Juniata dropped to 3-18 overall with the losses.

Freshman Holly Renninger (Adamstown, Pa./Cocalico) had a breakout day.  She tied a career-high with two hits, leading the team with a .667 average.  She and fellow freshman Paige Dennison (East Berlin, Pa./Bermudian Springs), who finished with two hits of her own, were the only Eagles to earn multi-hit days.

On the mound, sophomore Aly Smith (Mount Union, Pa./Mount Union) notched her second complete game of the season.  She struck out five in 9.1 innings of work.

The Eagles remain on the road for the next two matchups.  Juniata faces Eastern Mennonite on Tuesday, April 8 and University of Scranton on Saturday, April 12 before returning home to take on Drew University on Sunday, April 13 in back-to-back conference contests.
