CLERMONT, Fla. – Juniata College softball closed its third day of the Dot Richardson Spring Games splitting games between Hood College and Salve Regina University Tuesday.  The Eagles fell 3-2 in the morning to Hood, but then rebounded for the 3-2 win against Salve Regina.  Juniata (2-4) is now over halfway through the grueling week of contests and is picking up steam.  The Eagles have won two of their last four games.

Juniata's offense was led by senior Rachel Smith (Martinsburg, Pa./Homeschooled).  She went 3-for-5 on the day, hitting .600 with no strikeouts.  A true utility player, she spent time on the mound and even caught for sophomore Aly Smith (Mount Union, Pa./Mount Union) in both games.  Aly Smith struck out eight allowing just two hits in 5.2 shutout innings.

Junior Katie Schroeder (Kempton, Pa./Kutztown) and sophomore Paige Dennison (East Berlin, Pa./Bermudian Springs) also recorded multi-hit days, picking up two hits apiece, respectively.  Schroeder finished the day with a .571 slugging percentage and one run batted in off a triple.  Dennison went .400 with a run batted in and a stolen base.

The Eagles return to action on Thursday, March 13 when they take on RPI at 9 a.m. and The College of New Jersey at 11 a.m.
