HUNTINGDON, Pa. -- From a senior class that is poised to virtually own the Juniata College softball record book by the time this season is done, yet another career mark has fallen.
Third baseman and rightfielder Rachel Nagy (Nazareth, Pa./Nazareth) set a new Juniata runs batted in mark, eclipsing a mark that lasted barely a season. Nagy's three RBI performance against Wentworth Institute of Technology (Mass.) in the final game of the Eagles' spring break trip to Surfside Beach, S.C., gave her 98 career runs batted in. That surpassed Liz Schmitt's mark of 97, set from 2006-09.
Nagy may not be done. She is five doubles shy of a new career mark in that category as well, and both Nagy and senior outfielder Sarah Eckard (Hollidaysburg, Pa./Hollidaysburg) should break the Juniata career hits record of 143 held by Tara Carl (2006-09). Eckard currently has 138 hits, while Nagy has 135.
Senior pitcher Alyssa Erb (Hollidaysburg, Pa./Hollidaysburg) continues to improve upon her already held career strikeouts, but went over the 500 career strikeouts mark with her five strikeouts in game 2 of Tuesday's doubleheader against Lebanon Valley College. Erb long ago shattered the previous career strikeouts mark of 177, held by Lizzi Bartosik (2003-06).
Juniata (6-5) is off until Thursday, March 25, when it returns to the diamond in a road doubleheader against Saint Vincent College.
