Men’s Cross Country Places Second at Landmark Championships

HUNTINGDON, Pa.- The Juniata men's cross country team placed second overall in the 2017 Landmark Championships at Standing Stone Golf Club on Saturday. Juniata came in just behind Elizabethtown with 38 total points.

For the first time in the conference's 11-year history, the men's race featured a tie. Both Elizabethtown and Juniata finished the 8-kilometer race with 38 points. Per the conference rules, if there is a tie between two (or more) teams, then the tie shall be broken by comparing the place finish of the five scoring members of the tied teams. The team with the majority of wining places shall be awarded the higher place, or championship, depending on finish.

Peter D'Amico (Hummelstown, Pa. / Hershey HS) finished fourth with a time of 27:32.39. Evan Ulrich (Homer, N.Y. / Homer Senior High) finished sixth with a time of 27:48.61. Desmond O'Donovan (Philadelphia, Pa. / Science Leadership Academy) finished right behind Ulrich with a time of 28:16.51. Kevin Schofield (Madison, Conn. / Daniel Hand High School) finished eighth with a time of 28:23.46. Vinnie Caroselli (Upland, Pa. / Milton Hershey) finished 13th with a time of 28:42.76. Alexander Jones (Burlington, N.J. / Burlington Township) finished just behind Caroselli with a time of 28:43.84. Ben Martin (New Holland, Pa. / Garden Spot) finished 26th with a time of 29:45.10. Lucas Simpson (Silver Spring, Md. / Albert Einstein) finished 43rd with a time of 30:52.63. Perry Willig (Redwood City, Calif. / Bellarmine High School) finished 56th with a time of 31:52.28.

D'Amico, Ulrich and O'Donovan made the all-conference first team while Schofield, Caroselli and Jones made the second team.

Head Coach Jon Cutright and staff were named the men's cross country coaching staff of the year.
