LEWISBURG, PA – The Juniata College men's and women's cross country teams began their 2014 season at the Bison Open Saturday morning. Four Eagles finished in the top 25 of the non-scoring 3-mile race.
For the men, senior Matt Guetzlaff (Schnecksville,
PA/Parkland) had the highest finish as he placed
21st with a time of 15:35 out of 66 runners. Teammate
Stephen Park (State College, PA/State College) was
30th (15:57) and Ben Martin (New Holland,
PA/Garden Spot) was two sports behind in 32nd
place (16:03). Nick Simpson (Silver Spring, MD/Albert
Einstein) was 39th (16:09).
On the women’s side, freshman Allyson Kopera
(Hastings, PA/North Cambria) was the Eagles top finisher
at 39th out of 59 competitors. She crossed in
19:23. Courtney Peterson (York, PA/Central York)
finished with a time of 20:03. Vanessa Hurst
(Ephrata, PA/Ephrata), Alyssa Cousins (Lemont,
PA/State College), and Jecenia Duran (Temple,
PA/Oley Valley) had times of 20:54, 20:55, and 21:24,
respectively.
The Eagles travel to Greensburg, PA next Saturday. The teams will compete in the Seton Hill Griffin Classic.
