LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Juniata College men's and women's cross country teams began their 2013 season at the Bison Open Saturday morning. Four Eagles finished in the top 25 of the non-scoring 3-mile race.
Women's Cross Country
Senior Katrina Woods (Shirleysburg, Pa./Mount Union) was the Eagles top finisher at fourth overall. She crossed in 18:01, just one second off from her fastest time last year and three seconds behind the third place finisher. Jecenia Duran (Temple, Pa./Oley Valley) finished with a time of 19:07. The sophomore took two minutes off her fastest time from last year to place 24th.
Men's Cross Country
On the men's side, senior Nate Alter (Pittsburg, Pa./Taylor Allerdice) and freshman Nicholas Simpson (Montgomery County, Md./Albert Einstein) were Juniata's top finishers. Alter placed 15th overall with a time of 15:24, shaving 15 seconds off his time from last year at the Open. Simpson finished in 15:46 to place 20th.
The Eagles head to the Washington, D.C. next. They will run in the Catholic Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 7.
