Men's Volleyball Wraps Up Regular Season with Two Wins as Goldsborough Claims Program Record for Career Aces

ELMIRA, NY—The #6 Juniata men's volleyball team closed regular season play with a pair of victories, toppling Wilkes University 3-0 (25-18, 25-17, 25-14) and Elmira College 3-0 (25-16, 25-18, 25-14) Saturday afternoon inside Speidel Gymnasium. 

Tyler Goldsborough had seven kills (.500), four aces, and six digs in the match. He is now the all-time leader in aces in program history, surpassing Tim Shawaryn's 142 career aces. Chase Robbins tallied ten kills (.263), an assist, two aces, three digs, and a block assist. 

In set one against Wilkes, the Eagles, leading by four, 17-13, rattled off a 6-1 run capped by a Gavin Corrado kill to lead by nine, 23-14. Six points later, a service error ended set one 25-18. 

The second set was tight midway through, as a service error brought the Colonels within one, 17-16. From there, the Eagles took complete control, closing the set on an 8-1 run and winning the set on a service error, 25-17. 

The third and decisive set featured a 7-1 run late in the set as the Eagles cruised through the third set to win the match, 25-14. 

In the first set against Elmira, a 5-0 run early and an 8-2 surge later had the Eagles in the driver's seat following an Octavian Sperry kill 19-12. Luke Hoffman ended the first set with a kill, 25-16. 

Set two saw the Soaring Eagles hanging around, trailing by one, 13-12, early on. Two errors, two Tyler Phillips aces, and another attack error by Elmira gave the Eagles a six-point cushion, 18-12. The Eagles cruised from there, with Phillips ending the set with a kill, 25-17.  

Juniata had their best hitting percentage in set three as they hit .520 and held Elmira to -.042 as JC dominated, 25-14 to take the match. 

Goldsborough led the way with 11 kills (.526), an ace, four digs, two solo blocks and three block assists. Phillips added ten kills (.692), two aces, and three digs, while Reese Ganter had 36 assists, an ace, and four digs.

Juniata completes the regular season at 24-5, 7-1 in the CVC, and will enter the CVC playoffs as the two seed.
