Men's Volleyball Nabs Three Seed in CVC Playoffs with Win at Elizabethtown

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa.- The Juniata men's volleyball team closed Continental Volleyball Conference play on the road at Elizabethtown with a 3-0 (25-14, 25-17,25-23) sweep Tuesday evening inside Thompson Gymnasium.

The win locks the Eagles into the three seed, meaning they will host a playoff game next Tuesday against Kean.

Juniata completely dominated the first set, 25-14, as they hit .647 with 13 kills.

The second set was tighter, with the Blue Jays pulled within three late in the set at 19-16. JC closed on a 6-1 run to take the second set. A service error, a kill by Tyler Goldsborough (Reading, Pa. / Exeter Township HS) and another from Will Phelan (Saegertown, Pa. / Saegertown H) doubled the lead. Etown got one point before a service error, and a solo block by Joseph Chambers (West Hempstead, N.Y. / West Hempstead HS) gave the Eagles set point before Chambers combined with Goldsborough for a block to end it 25-17.

The third set featured a game of runs late as the Eagles used a 6-1 rally to get within two points of match point at 23-17. The Blue Jays took the next three points before a Phelan kill brought the magic number down to one. Elizabethtown took the next three points to make it 24-23 before Luke Hoffman (Reading, Pa. / Exeter Township HS) ended the match with his 10th kill of the match.

Hoffman, Phelan, and Goldsborough tallied ten kills apiece to help the Eagles get the sweep.

Juniata will host Kean Tuesday at 6:00 in the CVC Quarterfinals.
