Eagles Elude Sting of Yellowjackets in Sweep of Baldwin Wallace

HUNTINGDON, Pa.- The #12 Juniata men's volleyball team picked up their second win of the day as they defeated Baldwin Wallace 3-0 (25-20, 25-21, 25-22) Saturday evening inside Memorial Gymnasium.

Kevin Duffy III (Carlisle, Pa. / Carlisle HS) put up eight kills while hitting .636 to go with a solo block and five block assists, while Luke Hoffman (Reading, Pa. / Exeter Township HS) had six kills while hitting .417, two digs, a solo block, and three block assists. Tyler Goldsborough (Reading, Pa. / Exeter Township HS) had nine kills with a .500 hitting percentage, two digs, and three block assists. Campbell Gerdeman (Carlsbad, Calif. / Sage Creek HS) hit an efficient .833 with five kills, an ace, and a dig. Reese Ganter (Reading, Pa. / Exeter Township HS) totaled 24 assists with two aces and two digs.

Juniata fell behind early 1-3 before rattling off seven straight to retake the lead. They never looked back, ultimately winning the opener 25-20 on an attack error.

Juniata trailed very early, took the lead back at 3-2, and again never trailed the rest of the way. The Yellowjackets hung around, but the Eagles maintained their narrow edge the whole way, with Will Phelan (Saegertown, Pa. / Saegertown HS) putting down a kill to take the second set.

The Eagles had some work to do in the final set to earn the sweep, as they led as late as 12-13, and the score tied five different times with the final time at 20. Kills from Goldsborough and Gerdeman and a Baldwin Wallace error put JC up three. A Duffy kill gave Juniata match point, and a service error by the visitors ended the match, 25-22.

Juniata has a quick turnaround as they host St. Vincent Tuesday at 7:00.
