Eagles Take Down Knights 3-0

HUNTINGDON, Pa. – The Juniata men's volleyball team got back to their winning ways with a 3-0 (25-8, 25-11, 25-0) victory over Neumann University, Friday evening at Memorial Gymnasium.

Morgan Pierce (Carpinteria, Calif./Cate School) had 10 kills, hitting .909, eight digs and one service ace. Sean Cavanagh (Cranberry Twp., Pa./Seneca Valley) totaled seven kills, one solo block, and three block assists. Theodore Weinberger (Santa Clara, Calif./Adrian C. Wilcox HS) recorded his first kills on the collegiate stage, totaling six, and had one solo block, and three block assists. Michael Young (Westlake Village, Calif./Westlake Village) totaled 23 assists while Matt Schaeffer (Mount Wolf, Pa./Northeastern) had three service aces.

The Knights took the first two points of set one before the Eagles went on a five-point run to lead 6-3. Kills from David Hibner (Burke, Va./Lake Braddock Secondary), Quinn Peterson (Las Vegas, Nev./Shadow Ridge), Joe Fick (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township), and Matt Vasinko (Loyalhanna, Pa./Derry Area) quickly led the way to a steep 21-7 advantage and Neumann was unable to recover, JC taking the set 25-8.

The two teams traded points back and forth to start the second set before JC went on a seven-point run to lead 12-5, complete with kills from Cavanagh, Bender, and Weinberger. The Eagles continued to pull ahead to win the set 25-11.

Schaeffer made no mistakes as he served Neumann off the floor in the third set as the Eagles won 25-0. Pierce recorded seven kills while Schaefer logged three service aces. Juniata had a .875 hitting percentage in the set.

The Eagles return to the court Saturday at 6:00pm to face Cairn at home.
