GREENVILLE, Pa.- The Juniata men's volleyball team wrapped up its seventh straight match away from home on Tuesday night with a contest against Thiel. The Eagles took out the Tomcats in straight sets 3-0 (25-20, 25-23, 25-17).

 

The Eagles started off the first set on fire as it got out to leads of 5-1 and 9-3. Juniata was able to stay out in front but the Tomcats were able to chip away at their deficit as they narrowed the score to 22-20. JC picked up the last three points of the set to win and go ahead 1-0.

 

Juniata led in the second set but Thiel would come back and wrestle the lead away to go ahead 12-11. The Tomcats bumped the lead to 19-16 and were poised to even the match up. The Eagles had other ideas as they used a 10-3 run to overtake Thiel and win the set.

 

JC got to a big lead in the third frame as it was ahead 13-6. The Eagles were too much for the Tomcats to contend with as the advantage grew to 20-9. Thiel tried to cut the lead down but it was too much to overcome as Juniata won the set and the match.

 

Leaders for the Eagles on the night included Quinn Peterson (Las Vegas, Nev./Shadow Ridge) who had a team-high 15 kills. He added three digs and three assisted blocks. Kyle Seeley (Ellicott City, Md/Howard) and Matt Vasinko (Loyalhanna, Pa./Derry Area) both tacked on seven kills. Michael Young (Westlake Village, Calif/Westlake Village) put up 35 assists. Chris Heron (Las Vegas, Nev./Arbor View) led in digs with 13 while Vasinko and Young both added seven each.

 

Juniata (13-9, 6-3 CVC) returns to Memorial Gymnasium this Saturday for a non-conference tri-match. The Eagles play #4 Vassar at 1:00 p.m. JC will look to avenge a 3-2 loss to the Brewers on March 4. Juniata wraps up with Arcadia at 5:00 p.m.
