Eagles Take Down Highlanders 3-0

LANGHORNE, Pa.- The Juniata men's volleyball team ended its brief two-day road trip with a visit to Eastern Pennsylvania for a match with Continental Volleyball Conference rival Cairn. The Eagles won 3-0 over the Highlanders to move to 7-4 on the season and 2-0 in the CVC.

 

Juniata raced out to a 5-0 lead in the first set. The lead grew to as much as 11-4. The Highlanders kept up with the Eagles and got the set to 18-16. JC was able to outlast Cairn in the end with a 7-3 run to win the frame 25-19.

 

The second set was tightly contested early on. Juniata clung to a 7-6 lead before getting off a 9-3 run to go ahead 16-9. Cairn closed to 17-12 but the Eagles rattled off five straight points to expand the lead to 22-12. The Highlanders picked up four points to make it 22-16 but once again the Eagles proved to be too much as they took the set 25-19.

 

Juniata had a 15-9 lead in the third set. Cairn was able to slowly chip away and got the score to 21-20. The Eagles outscored the Highlanders 5-1 in the end to win the set 25-21 and take the match.

 

The Eagles had a season-high .442 hitting percentage on the night. Kyle Seeley (Ellicott City, Md./Howard) put down 13 kills and hit .611. Mahlon Bender (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin) added 11 kills with a .643 hit percentage. Michael Young (Westlake Village, Calif./Westlake Village) tallied 26 assists with Quinn Looper (Houston, Texas/Episcopal) adding 12 assists. Chris Heron (Las Vegas, Nev./Arbor View) led the defensive effort with 11 digs.

 

Juniata returns to Memorial Gymnasium for a big CVC Tri-match next Saturday. The Eagles play Marymount (Va.) at 1:00 p.m. and end with Alvernia at 5:00 p.m.
