Men’s Volleyball Defeats Thiel To Snap Winless Streak

HUNTINGDON, Pa.- The Juniata men's volleyball team got back in the winning column as the Eagles defeated Thiel 3-0 (25-11, 25-23, 25-19) on Tuesday night at Memorial Gym. The win snaps JC's six-match winless streak.

 

The Eagles were dominant in the first set. A 7-5 lead quickly became an 11-5 advantage. JC went up 20-8 as they cruised to take the frame.

 

Set two was a bit closer. The Bobcats led 3-1 early on but the Eagles rallied to go up 7-4. Juniata increased its advantage to 11-7 before Thiel rallied to get to 11-10. The Bobcats rallied twice the tie the frame (16-16, and 19-19) but each time JC had an answer and moved ahead. The score stood at 24-23 in Juniata's favor and the Eagles would take the set thanks to a Thiel service error.

 

JC got out to a 9-2 lead in the third frame. The Eagles' advantage was no less than four points as they held off the Bobcats to take the set and the match.

 

The Eagles hit .308 as a team and recorded 11 service aces, which represented a season-high. Quinn Peterson (Las Vegas, Nev./Shadow Ridge) led in kills with 11. Quinn Looper (Houston, Texas/Episcopal) picked up 21 assists and tallied four service aces. Chad Albert (Cranberry Township, Pa./Seneca Valley) hit .625 and recorded five digs, four assisted blocks, and two service aces. Kyle Seeley (Ellicott City, Md./Howard) had five service aces.

 

Juniata will be idle until next Wednesday when it hosts Penn-State Altoona. Match time will be at 7 p.m.
