NEWARK, N.J.- Juniata men's volleyball traveled to Newark, N.J. to faced Continental Volleyball Conference rival Rutgers-Newark at the Golden Dome Arena. The first place Scarlet Raiders defeated the Eagles 3-0 (21-15, 18-25, 16-25).

Kyle Seeley (Ellicott City, Md./Howard) led the team in kills with eight. Quinn Looper (Houston, Texas/Episcopal) picked up 15 assists. Chad Albert (Cranberry Township, Pa./Seneca Valley) had three service aces. On the defensive end, Brendan Smith (Fuquay-Varina, N.C./Fuquay-Varina) tallied seven digs. Mahlon Bender (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin) assisted on four blocks.

Juniata led 10-8 in the first set. Rutgers-Newark came back to go ahead but the Eagles wrestled the lead back at 15-14. That would be the last advantage they would have as the Scarlet Raiders put up five straight points to go up 18-15. JC was able to get to within 21-20 but the Scarlet Raiders went on a 4-1 run to close out the set and lead the match 1-0.

The Eagles trailed in the second set 7-6 but a run by the Scarlet Raiders put them ahead 12-6. Juniata was still behind at 20-17 but once again Rutgers-Newark proved to be too much with a 5-1 run to claim the frame.

The Scarlet Raiders scored the first four points in the third stanza before the Eagles got two points on attack errors. A 13-3 run by the home team staked them to a 17-5 lead as Rutgers-Newark cruised to take the set and match.

Juniata will look to get back in the winning column tomorrow afternoon with a CVC matchup with Cairn in Langhorne, Pa. Start time is 1 p.m.
