Three Eagles Named to CVC All-Conference Team

LEXINGTON, KY- The Continental Volleyball Conference announced its 2015 All-Conference Team on Thursday. Three members of the Juniata Eagles men's volleyball team were selected.

 

Joe Bortak (Jeannette, PA/Penn Trafford) becomes the first player in conference history to earn All-Conference honors all four years. Bortak, a middle blocker, finished with 265 kills this season including 136 during conference action, ranking 4th in the league. He hit .480 during CVC play, the second highest hitting percentage in the league, and finished sixth in total blocks with 39. He was named the CVC and ECAC player of the week on February 23 as he averaged 4.57 kills per set in two conference wins. On the week, Bortak hit .630 with 32 kills and just three errors on 46 attempts. He recorded 13 digs, five total blocks, and 35.5 points in the two matches. Earlier this season, he became the first Eagles player since 2010 to reach 1,000 kills for a career and is the program's all-time leader in total blocks with over 420.

Paul Kuhn (York, PA/Central York), an outside hitter, is making his third All-Conference appearance. He ranked in the top five in kills, hitting percentage, service aces, and solo blocks during conference play this year. He averaged 3.69 kills per set while hitting .400 with a conference high 19 service aces. He was a CVC and ECAC player of the week on February 16 as he helped Juniata to a pair of conference wins. For the week, Kuhn finished with 25 kills, hit .590, and averaged 4.17 kills per set. He totaled 33 points with an average of 5.5 points per set. He also reached 1,000 kills for his career this season.

 

Matt Elias (Lansdale, PA/North Penn), a setter, is making his first appearance on the All-Conference team after earning CVC All-Tournament MVP honors in each of the last two years. Elias upped his play once reaching conference action, increasing both his assists per set and digs per set. He averaged 10.14 assists during conference action, ranking third in the CVC. Elias had a season and career-high 60 assists in Juniata's 3-2 win over Rutgers-Newark on February 24.
