DANBURY, CT- After earning Player of the Week recognition from the CVC on Monday, senior middle blocker Joe Bortak (Jeanette, PA/Penn Traford) has earned the same honor from the ECAC. This is the second straight week a Juniata player has earned this after Paul Kuhn (York, PA/Central York) did last week.
Bortak averaged 4.57 kills per set in conference wins over Thiel and Stevenson last week. He hit .630 with 32 kills and just three errors on 46 attempts. Bortak recorded 13 digs, five total blocks, and 35.5 points in the two matches.
Bortak is the team leader in kills with 140 and is averaging 2.75 per set. His 10 solo blocks and 43 in total are also team-highs. His .462 hitting percentage is third in all of Division III. Among Division III career active leaders, he ranks first in total blocks (387), hitting percentage (.422) and in sets played (422), second in matches placed (119), and third kills (956).
