Men’s Volleyball Defeats Lasell, Falls to #2 Stevens

UNION, NJ- Coming off its first loss of the season last night, the Juniata men's volleyball team rebounded with a 3-0 (25-19, 25-19, 25-20) win over Lasell at Kean's Harwood Arena on Saturday. The match was part of the Kean Invitational.

 

Justin Waldorf (Eden, NY/Eden) paced the Eagle offense with 12 kills and had a hitting percentage of .647. Matt Elias (Lansdale, PA/North Penn) had 16 assists while Ryan Shelton (Baldwinsville, NY/Baldwinsville) contributed 13 assists. Waldorf also had nine digs with Tommy Keisling (Sewickley, PA/North Allegheny) adding seven. Juniata had its best hitting percentage to date of .385.

 

The Eagles had a 9-4 advantage in the first set. The Lasers were able to keep the score close as Juniata had a 12-11 lead. Lasell could get no closer than two points as JC was able to expand its lead to six and won by the same margin.

 

The two teams traded off points early on in the second set. Lasell got some separation from the Eagles with a 6-3 advantage. The Eagles briefly held a lead but the Lasers were able to wrestle it back. The last lead for the Chargers happened at 14-13. Juniata went up 17-14 and increased it to 21-15. The Eagles led for the rest of the set to come out with the win.

 

The third game saw the Eagles lead for most of the frame. After leading by no more than four points, JC started to break away with an 8-0 run to surge ahead 23-14. While the Lasers were able to get to within 24-20, the Eagles got their match clinching point on an error to come away with the win.

 

In their second match of the day, the Eagles were on the wrong end of the score as #2 Stevens won 3-0 (25-18, 25-14, 25-19). Paul Kuhn (York, PA/Central York) tallied seven kills with Matthew Kinnebrew (Lansdowne, VA/Stonebridge) adding five. Elias has 21 assists and five digs.

 

Juniata will travel to Greenville on Tuesday to begin CVC play against Thiel. Match time will be at 7 p.m.
