Juniata men’s volleyball blanks Philly Biblical, 3-0

STEVENSON, Md. – Juniata College men's volleyball improved to 2-0 in Continental Volleyball Conference play with a 3-0 win over Philadelphia Biblical University, Friday evening at the Owings Mills Gym in Owings Mills, Md.

Set scores for Juniata (14-6, 2-0 CVC East) were 25-16, 25-15, and 26-24.

Outside hitter Ross Madden (Richmond, Va./Deep Run) paced Juniata with 12 kills on 27 swings with just two errors, translating to a .370 hitting percentage. Senior middle Ben Wolff (Meadville, Pa./Meadville) put away nine kills and recorded a pair of blocks, while pin hitter Paul Kuhn (York, Pa./Central York) logged seven kills with two service aces.

Freshman Joe Bortak (Jeannette, Pa./Penn Trafford), the reigning AVCA Division III Player of the Week, had four kills on eight error-free swings, and had a hand on three blocks. 

Senior John Almquist (York, Pa./Central York) finished with 23 assists in the win, guiding the Eagles to a .354 hitting percentage – Juniata's second straight . 300-or-better hitting performance. Almquist also led the Eagles defensively, turning up nine digs. 

By contrast, Philadelphia Biblical hit just .085 for the match, led by Noah Prickett's eight kills and four aces for 12.0 points, to go with eight digs. Stephen Hirsch had seven kills and hit -.056 on the night. 

Jon Wilson logged 23 assists for Philly Bib.

Juniata returns to action on Saturday, when it faces Eastern Mennonite at 1:30 p.m., followed by the host Stevenson University squad at 3:30 p.m.
