HOUGHTON, N.Y.- The Juniata men's track & field team started off the new year by competing at the Highlander Invitational, Friday evening.
The distance medley team consisting of Desmond O'Donovan (Philadelphia, Pa. / Science Leadership Academy), Evan MacMullin (Haverhill, Mass. / Saint John's Prep HS), Andy Meci (Woodstock, N.Y. / Onteora), and Evan Ulrich (Homer, N.Y. / Homer) took the Eagles top spot on the running side. They finished first with a time of 11:04.11.
In the 60m dash, Noah Zolnak (Altoona, Pa. / Altoona Area HS) finished 32nd with a time of 7.84. Brenden Gardner (Muncy, Pa. / Hughesville) placed 14th in the 200m dash coming in with a time of 24.59. In the 300m dash, Zolnak finished 15th (40.63), Malcolm MacDermid (San Francisco, Calif. / Lick-Wilmanding) finished 16th (40.76), and MacMullin finished 18th (40.87). In the 600m run, Meci came in 22nd with a time of 1:30.83. Ulrich took the top spot for the Eagles in the 800m run, finishing 11th while O'Donovan finished 13th, Peter D'Amico (Hummelstown, Pa. / Hershey) finished 22nd, and Steven Glodek (Amberton, Pa. / Fannett-Metal) finished 43rd.
D'Amico finished 20th with a time of 4:44.60 while Glodek finished 52nd with a time of 5:19.70 in the mile run. Vinnie Caroselli (Upland, Pa. / Milton Hershey) placed 13th in the 3000m run, coming in with a time of 9:19.17. Gardner placed eighth in the 60m hurdles as he finished with a time of 9.50. The team of Gardner, Zolnak, MacMullin, and MacDermid took seventh place in the 4x200m relay.
In the field, Thayer Phillips (Cuddy, Pa. / South Fayette) placed eighth in the shot put marking 12.70m while Daniel Fernandez (New Oxford, Pa. / New Oxford) placed 20th, marking 11.07m. In the weight throw, Fernandez placed 14t,h marking 10.76m and Phillips placed 16th, marking 9.96m.
The Eagles return to the track, January 25th for the Bison Open & Multi held at Bucknell.
