Multiple Eagles Earn Medals in the Landmark Championship

SELINSGROVE, Pa. - Juniata's women's distance medley, the men's distance medley team, Storm Fridinger, Andrew Paterno, Nicholas Simpson and Evan Ulrich were medal winners at the Landmark Indoor Track and Field Championship on Saturday, Feb. 25.

Paterno (Waynesboro, Pa./Waynesboro Area) took the highest place for the Eagles with his ECAC qualifying 15.39-meter weight throw. His throw at the Landmark Championship was over a meter farther than his season best.

The women's distance relay team finished second, behind Elizabethtown, with a final time of 12:57.94. Azia Kalil (Methuen, Mass./Methuen), Faith Nichols (Pittsburgh, Pa./Taylor Allderdice), Chelsea Chizmar (Johnstown, Pa./Forest Hills) and Claudia Sacks (Allentown, Pa./Allentown Central Catholic) broke the Landmark Championship record of 13:00.65 set by E-town's team in the 2016 championship.

Ryan Bogdan (Buffalo, N.Y./Canisius), Fridinger, Andrew Meci (Woodstock, N.Y./Onteora) and Alexander Jones (Burlington, N.J./Burlington Township) also placed second in the distance medley. The foursome marked a season-best final time of 10:45.69.

In the 3000-meter run, Nicholas Simpson (Silver Spring, Md./Albert Einstein) took the silver with his final time of 9:11.49, a personal best for the senior. Evan Ulrich (Homer, N.Y./Homer) was just three seconds away from a medal, taking fourth overall. 

In the next event for the distance runners, the 5000-meter run, Ulrich and Simpson both took medals. Ulrich finished second with a time of 16:01.80, shaving 17 seconds off of his personal best. Simpson followed suit, taking 14 seconds off of his personal best, and finished third for the Eagles.

Fridinger's (Shippensburg, Pa./Shippenburg) 1.83-meter high jump earned the bronze. His season best still stands at 1.88m, set at the Susquehanna River Hawk Opener.

The Eagles' first outdoor meet is the Juniata Invitational on Mar. 18.
