Juniata Continues to Show Strength at S.U. Invite

SELINSGROVE, Pa. - Juniata's indoor track and field teams competed at the Susquehanna University Invitational on Saturday, Feb. 18, the last invitational before the Landmark Championships. 

WOMEN TOP FINISHERS

The women's weight throw kicked off the start of the invitational for the throwers. Kylie Orndorf started her day with a 15th place finish. She took 15th out of 30 qualifiers with her 11.26-meter throw.

Juniata's distance medley relay team of Azia Kalil, Faith Nichols, Yanibel Collado and Meaghen Stewart finished fourth out of eight competing teams. The team completed the race with a final mark of 13:16.09. The 4x200 meter relay team finished ninth out of ten teams. The team of Julia Freimuth, Kaitlyn Cosby, Caitlyn Gasmen and Claudia Sacks completed the race with a final time of 2:00.48.

Sacks and Collado finished ninth and tenth in the 800-meter run, the highest finishers for the Eagles in the Invite. Sacks crossed the line at 2:26.64 and Collado was right behind her at 2:27.14.

MEN TOP FINISHERS

Andrew Paterno landed in fourth overall for the men's weight throw at the start of the day. Paterno finished with a 13.82-meter mark in the weight throw. In the shot put, he finished 11th with a 12.09-meter best. Behind him, Daniel Fernandez marked a 11.84-meter shot put and finished 13th overall.

In the long jump, John Randolph finished eighth out of 31 jumpers. His best jump was marked at 5.98 meters.

Juniata's runners had a successful day with multiple top-half finishes. To start, Evan Ulrich marked a 4:36.52 time in the one-mile run, taking an 11th place finish. Storm Fridinger then recorded a final time in the 400-meter dash of 54.41, beating out 21 others in the event. In the 800-meter run, Petro Sokirniy (2:03.98) and Steven Guetzlaff (2:04.71) took 11th and 12th place finishes.

Up next, Juniata will be back at Susquehanna for the Landmark Indoor Track and Field Championships on Saturday, Feb. 25.
