Balanced Team Effort Results in 19 Top-10 Performances for Men's Track and Field

FROSTBURG, Md. - The Juniata men's track and field team notched 19 top-10 performances at the Frostburg Invitational Saturday.

In the steeplechase, Eric Savarese (Oley, Pa. / Oley Valley) finished 4th with a time of 11:47.67. Freshman Andy Meci (Woodstock, N.Y. / Onteora) placed 4th with a time of 4:25.05 and Dima Kunstbeck (Altoona, Pa. / Altoona) placed 7th with a time of 4:28.69. Greg Van Gongen (Churchville, N.Y. / Churchville-Chilli) and Kevin Schofield (Madison, CT / Daniel Hand) also placed 8th and 10th in the race. 

Junior Steven Guetzlaff (Schnecksville, Pa. / Parkland) took the top spot in the 800m, finishing with a time of 2:02.58. Evan MacMullin (Haverhill, Mass. / St. John's Prep) finished 5th in the race with a time of 2:06.44, followed by Lucas Simpson (Silver Spring, Md. / Albert Einstein) in 12th place and Kunstbeck in 13th place. 

Sophomore Storm Fridinger (Shippensburg, Pa. / Shippensburg) finished the 200m in 4th place with a time of 23.54. In the 5000m, Ben Martin (New Holland, Pa. / Garden Spot) placed 6th, finishing with a time of 17:24.27.

Fridinger, MacMullin, Meci and Guetzlaff combined efforts to place 2nd in the 4x400m with a time of 3:37.67. 

In the field events, Andrew Paterno (Waynesboro, Pa. / Waynesboro) placed 2nd in the hammer with a throw of 42.13. Freshman Matt Matylewicz (York, Pa. / Central York) and senior Jon Altland (York, Pa. / Central York) placed 5th and 6th in the javelin event, respectively. 

Matthew Kinnebrew (Lansdowne, Va. / Stonebridge) placed 7th in the long jump, reaching a distance of 5.54m. In the discus event, Paterno placed 3rd with a throw of 36.80, followed by Daniel Fernandez (Oxford, Pa. / New Oxford) in 6th place. Paterno also placed 3rd in shot put, reaching a distance of 11.95.

The Eagles will return to action next Saturday, April 7, at the Messiah Invitational.
