Men's Outdoor Puts on Strong Performances at Juniata Invite

HUNTINGDON, Pa. - The Eagles began their outdoor season at home at the Juniata College Invite Saturday. 

The team was competitive in both the track and field events. In the hammer throw, junior Andrew Paterno (Waynesboro, Pa. / Waynesboro) placed 3rd with a distance of 39.67m. He was followed by senior Jon Altland (York, Pa. / Central York) and junior Bryce Dupes (Elverson, Pa. / Agora Cyber Charter) in 12th and 13th place, respectively.

Freshman Matt Matylewicz (York, Pa. / Central York) placed 5th in the javelin event, reaching a distance of 48.89m. Altland threw a distance of 46.38m in the event, placing 9th. 

Senior Matthew Kinnebrew (Lansdowne, Va. / Stonebridge) placed 3rd in the long jump, jumping a distance of 6.32, and 2nd in the triple jump with a distance of 12.70m. In the high jump event, sophomore Storm Fridinger (Shippensburg, Pa. / Shippensburg) cleared a height of 1.78m, placing 4th. 

Paterno also placed 6th in discus with a throw of 35.27m and 7th in shot put, reaching a distance of 13.32m. Freshman Jarrod Clapper (Bedford, Pa. / Bedford) placed 7th in the pole vault event, clearing a height of 3.50m. 

In the 5000m run, senior Greg VanDongen (Churchville, NY / Churchville-Chilli) finished with a time of 16:34.95 in 8th place.

Junior Petro Sokirniy (Huntingdon Valley, Pa. / Upper Moreland) placed 9th in the 1500m with a time of 4:15.36. Freshman Andrew Meci (Woodstock, NY / Onteora) followed in 13th place, finishing at 4:20.48. 

Junior Trenton Barnes (Hopewell, Pa. / Northern Bedford) ran a time of 11.69 in the 100m, finishing in 12th place. He was followed by freshman Camden Kasik (Silver Spring, MD / Albert Einstein) in 20th place and senior David Spayde (Mount Joy, Pa. / Donegal High School) in 26th. Barnes also placed 14th in the 200m with a time of 23.92. 

Junior Steven Guetzlaff (Schnecksville, Pa. / Parkland) placed 3rd in the 800m, running a time of 1:59.33. In the 3000m, senior Jacob Krott (Temple, Pa. / Muhlenberg) ran a time of 9:17.64, leading the Juniata pack in 3rd place. Kevin Schofield (Madison, CT / Daniel Hand),Ben Martin (New Holland, Pa. / Garden Spot), and Dima Kunstbeck (Altoona, Pa. / Altoona) finished the race just behind in 4th, 5th, and 6th place, respectively.

The men also had a combined effort by Fridinger, Sokirniy, Guetzlaff, and Evan MacMullin(Haverhill, Mass. / St. John's Prep) in the 4x400m relay to place 3rd with a time of 3:31.76.

The Eagles will return to the track next weekend, March 26, at the Jim Taylor Invitational.
