Men’s Outdoor Track & Field Finishes Third at Landmarks

KINGS POINT, N.Y. – The Juniata College men's track & field team finished third overall after two days of competition at the 2014 Landmark Conference Outdoor Championships, hosted by the United States Merchant Marine Academy. The men finished with 90 points behind first place Susquehanna University and seconds place Moravian College.

 

The performance of sophomore Matt Guetzlaff (Schnecksville, Pa./Parkland) in the 5000 meter run headlined the day for the Eagles. Guetzlaff finished in 15:31.59 to capture the win for Juniata. Senior Nate Alter (Pittsburgh, Pa./Taylor Allderdice) placed fourth in the 5000 meters after winning the 10,000 meter run on Saturday.

 

Junior Tyler Mandley (Altoona, Pa./Altoona Area) also came up big for the Eagles. Mandley finished a close second in the 400 meter hurdles with a new career best time of 56.04 seconds. In the 110 meter hurdles, Mandley placed third in a new personal best time of 15.59 seconds. Junior Brett Heber (Oil City, Pa./Oil City) finished the 400 meter hurdles in fourth place.

 

In the 200 meter dash, freshman Trenton Barnes (Hopewell, Pa./Northern Bedford) ran a personal best 23.06 seconds to place fifth overall. In the 100 meter dash, Barnes crossed the line a personal best 11.54 seconds to take seventh place.

 

Sophomore R.J. Bogdan (Buffalo, N.Y./Canisius High School) placed fifth in the 800 meter run, finishing with a time of 2:01.06.

 

The 4x400 meter relay team of Barnes, Mandley, senior Connor Robinson (Asheville, N.C./Asheville), and freshman Davon Jackson (Deptford, N.J./Deptford Township) placed third overall. The 4x100 meter relay team of Barnes, Jackson, senior David Spayde (Mount Joy, Pa./Donegal High School), and junior Eli Murphy (Poland, Maine/Poland Regional) finished fourth overall.

 

Freshman Andrew Paterno (Waynesboro, Pa./Waynesboro) continued to score points for the Eagles in the field. Paterno placed fourth in the shot put with a personal best mark of 13.26 meters and sixth in the discus. Freshman Bryce Dupes (Elverson, Pa./Agora Cyber Charter School) and senior Zach Doyle (Altoona, Pa./Bellwood-Antis) also had personal best throws in the shot put to finish seventh and eighth, respectively. In the triple jump, senior Justin Herr (Mountain Top, Pa./Crestwood) finished sixth overall.

 

The Eagles will round out competition on Monday, May 12 at the Swarthmore Last Chance Meet.
