Men's Track & Field Competes at Messiah Invitational, Bison Open

HUNTINGDON, Pa. – Most of the Juniata College men's track & field team competed at the Messiah Invitational on Saturday, but a few student-athletes competed in Bucknell University's Bison Outdoor Classic.

 

Sophomore Matt Guetzlaff (Schnecksville, Pa./Parkland) placed in the top half of the field in the 5000 meter run at the Bison Outdoor Classic. Guetzlaff finished 41st out of 106 runners in a personal best time of 15:14.20. This time is the fastest in the Landmark so far this season.

 

The rest of the team picked up 11 top-six finishes while competing at Messiah. Juniata's top finisher was junior Tyler Mandley (Altoona, Pa./Altoona Area) who placed second in the 110 meter hurdles in 15.96. Mandley also placed sixth in the 400 meter hurdles in 59.10.

 

In the 1500 meter run, freshman Petro Sokirniy (Huntingdon Valley, Pa./Upper Moreland) crossed the line in third and sophomore R.J. Bogdan (Buffalo, N.Y./Canisius High School) placed fifth. Sokirniy and Bogdan teamed up with sophomore Jacob Krott (Temple, Pa./Muhlenberg) and senior Connor Robinson (Asheville, N.C./Asheville) to placed second in the 4x800 meter relay.

 

In the 10,000 meter run, freshman Xavier Cachon (Bala Cynwyd, Pa./Lower Merion) placed third and senior Pete Mullins (Verona, Pa./Penn Hills) followed in fifth place. Freshman Nick Simpson (Silver Spring, Md./Albert Einstein) finished fourth in the 5000 meter run.

 

Sophomore Garrett Lavelle (Eden, N.Y./Eden Jr./Sr. High School) had a personal best throw of 36.28 meters in the discus to finish in fifth place. In the shot put, freshman Andrew Paterno (Waynesboro, Pa./Waynesboro) finished sixth with a mark of 12.82 meters. Senior Justin Herr (Mountain Top, Pa./Crestwood) placed fifth in the triple jump with a leap of 12.27 meters.

 

The Eagles next compete on Friday, April 18 at the Widener Invitational. Competition at the meet continues Saturday, April 19.
