Sam Varner will enter his third season as the Head Tennis Coach for the Men’s and Women’s Tennis Programs in fall 2018.
Varner comes to Juniata from Randolph-Macon College where he was an assistant coach for two seasons. During his time there, the Women’s Teams were 31-6 while the men finished 20-12. The women's team achieved their first regional rankings by both the ITA and the NCAA. Seven players were all-conference and all state.
Prior to his time at Randolph-Macon, Varner was an assistant and head coach for Bridgewater College. While there, the Eagle women finished 27-10 while the men finished 26-17. As a head coach, the men achieved a regional ranking of #17. Seven players were all state and 19 All-Conference.
Varner earned a Bachelor of Arts in History from Randolph Macon in 2009. He was a two-time captain for the Yellow Jackets as a player and registered the most individual victories between 2006 and 2009.
