MADISON, N.J.- The Juniata men's tennis team marked the first day of the ITA Division Northeast Regionals with a round of 64 singles win for Francisco Aran Martin, while he paired with Arsen Tabaldyev to win their first-round doubles match.
Inclement weather conditions on the campus of Drew University moved today's tournament action from the outdoors Drew Tennis Courts to indoor facilities. As a result of limited space, singles matches were eight-game, one-set competitions.
Aran Martin started the day with an 8-6 win over an opponent from Ithaca College in the round of 64.
Aran Martin and Tabaldyev later found the victory in a tiebreaker against a Vassar College duo, winning 8-7, 9-7 in the round of 32.
Martin Munoz also featured in the tournament, but an ankle injury after winning the first game of his singles match eventually led to a 1-8 defeat to an opponent from Hamilton College.
Aran Martin and Tabaldyev will continue to play on Saturday. Aran Martin's round of 32 opponent will be from RPI, while the two will meet a team also from RPI in the round of 16.
