Eagles Get By Royals in Men’s Tennis 5-4

SCRANTON, Pa.- The Juniata men's tennis team played its final Landmark Conference match on Sunday afternoon against Scranton. The Eagles found themselves in a tight battle with the Royals but came out with a 5-4 victory.

 

With the win, Juniata is now 12-8 overall and 7-1 in the Landmark. They are locked in second place and will be the #2 seed in the upcoming Landmark Tournament.

 

The Eagles led 2-1 after the completion of doubles play. Dean Polisena (Adelaide, Australia/Saint Ignatius) and Roy Liberman (Montevideo, Uruguay/EIHU) won 8-4 at first doubles as did Owen Grafe (Newton, Mass./Newton North) and Bryan Gregory (Glen Mills, Pa./Garnet Valley) at third doubles. Jason Gerber (Commack, NY/Commack) and Daichi McAuliffe-Uchida (Wantage, NJ/High Point Regional) dropped their match at second doubles 8-3.

 

Polisena won at first singles 6-3, 6-1 over Alex Ochalski. Gregory was a winner at third singles 6-3, 6-1 against Matt Predergast. McAuliffe-Uchida defeated Dave Commender 6-3, 6-2 at fourth singles.

 

Junaita will host Messiah in its final regular season match this coming Wednesday at Raffensberger Court. Start time is at 4:00 p.m.
