Eagles Take Down Blue Jays

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa.- After dropping their first conference match in three years on Sunday to Goucher, the Juniata men's tennis looked to start a new streak as they played Elizabethtown on Friday afternoon. The Eagles had no trouble with the Blue Jays as they won 8-1.

 

Juniata took two of three matches in doubles play. Roy Liberman (Montevideo, Uruguay/EIHU) and Matyas Kohout (Krhanice, Czech Republic/Gymnasium Jizni Mesto) paired up for the first time this season and defeated Alex Machalik and Ryan Caris 8-6 at first doubles. Bryan Gregory (Glen Mills, Pa./Garnet Valley) and Jason Gerber (Commack, N.Y./Commack) were also a first time pairing at second doubles and won 8-1 over Nathan Dowling and Matthew Hornbaker. The only loss was by Mike Lifshitz (Worcester, Mass./Worcester Academy) and Logan Moore (Chadds Ford, Pa/Unionville) who narrowly lost 9-8 to Evan Hinkley and Nick Strobel.

 

Gregory ran his singles winning streak to six as he beat Dowling 6-2, 6-3 at third singles. Daichi McAuliffe-Uchida (Wantage, N.J./High Point Regional) improved to 5-1 on the season with a 6-3, 6-1 win against Hornbaker. Gerber won his first collegiate match as he was a 6-2, 6-1 winner over Nick Strobel.

 

The Eagles are back in action on Saturday as they host Drew at Raffensberger Court. Match time is at 1:00 p.m.
