Men’s Tennis Defeats Wittenberg 6-3; Loses to Lake Forest

HAINES CITY, Fla.- After an off day on Tuesday, the Juniata men's tennis team was back in action on Wednesday morning. The Eagles faced Wittenberg and came away with a 6-3 win.

 

JC took two of three in doubles play. Bryan Gregory (Glen Mills, Pa./Garnet Valley) and Owen Grafe (Newton, Mass./Newton North) teamed up to defeat Matt Aroyo and Akbar Tiwana 8-6 at second dubs. The pair of Logan Moore (Chadds Ford, Pa./Unionville) and Mike Lifshitz (Worcester, Mass./Worcester Academy) won at third doubles 8-5 over Dennis Gleason and Sean Munson.

 

In singles play, Roy Liberman (Montevideo, Uruguay/EIHU) dropped his first set again Luke Minard but rebounded to win the second set 6-1 and the third 6-3. Moore was a victor in the third flight 6-1, 6-1 against McNulty. Daichi McAuliffe-Uchida (Wantage, N.J./High Point Regional HS) won his first collegiate match with a 6-0, 2-6, 10-5 super tiebreaker decision over Munson.

 

Two other matches also reached super tie-breaker. Matyas Kohout (Krhanice, Czech Republic / Gymnasium Jizni Mesto) lost his first set to Arroyo 4-6 before winning the second frame 6-3. The super tiebreaker went to Arroyo 10-4. Lifshitz also dropped his first set 4-6 and then recovered to claim the second set 6-4 before ultimately falling in the super tiebreak 10-6 to Alex Sarihan.

 

Juniata then played Lake Forest College in the evening. The Foresters won 8-1 The lone win went to Grafe and Gregory as they held off Nick Rehm and Joe Bove 9-7.

 

McAuliffe-Uchida played his second super tiebreaker of the day this time against the Foresters Dragan Trivanovic. Trivanovic won the first set 6-2 but McAuliffe-Uchida retaliated in the second 6-3,

The Eagles are off tomorrow and will play one more match in Florida before heading home. Juniata goes against Colorado College on Friday at 3:00 p.m.
