Men’s Tennis Gets First Win With 6-3 Victory over Bridgewater

SALISBURY, Md.- Juniata men's tennis bounced back from yesterday's loss to Salisbury with a 6-3 win over Bridgewater on Saturday afternoon. The match was played on the Seagulls' court.

 

JC took two of three matches in doubles. The only loss went to the pair of Dean Polisena (Adelaide, Australia) and Roy Liberman (Montevideo, Uruguay/EIHU) at first doubles. The duo were edged out by Thomas Rishcoff and Joe Dillenbeck 9-8 with the tiebreaker favoring Bridgewater 7-3.

 

In singles play, Rishcoff won in split sets over Polisena in the first flight. Polisena won the opening set 6-2 before Rishcoff evened the match by taking the second set 7-6, winning the tiebreaker 7-3. The two played a tiebreaker to decide the third set and the match with Rishcoff winning 10-3.

 

Fifth singles also went to a super tiebreaker. Dan Ansel (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Township) lost the first set 2-6 before taking the second 6-4. The third set went to Bridgewater's Nathaniel Horner 10-4.

 

At second singles, Matyas Kohout (Krhanice, Czech Republic/Gymnasium Jizni Mesto) edged Dillenbeck 6-4, 7-5. Lieberman picked up his first collegiate victory as he downed Freddie Roberts 6-3, 6-3 at third singles. Bryan Gregory (Glen Mills, Pa./Garnet Valley) stopped Emmett Johnson 6-3, 6-1 at fourth singles. Mike Lifshitz (Worcester, Mass./Worcester Academy) took care of Kris Stokes 6-0, 6-0 at sixth singles.

 

Juniata travels to Geneva, N.Y. next Saturday to face Hobart. Match time will be at 3 p.m.
