SALISBURY, MD.- The Juniata men's tennis team opened its 2016 season on Friday afternoon against Salisbury. The Seagulls outlasted the Eagles by the score of 6-3.
Juniata had one win in doubles play. The tandem of Bryan Gregory (Glen Mills, Pa/Garnet Valley) and Owen Grafe (Newton, Mass./Newton North) needed a tiebreaker but were able to defeat the pair of Michael Popielski and Andrew Rainger 9-8 in third doubles.
Gregory also won his singles match. After dropping the first set, he came back to win the second set 7-5 and the third in a super tie-breaker, 12-10 over Kelson Weber.
Playing in his first collegiate match, Dan Ansel (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Township) picked up his first career win. Ansel won 6-0, 6-4 over Andrew Rainger.
The Eagles return to the court at Salisbury when they play Bridgewater. Match time is at 4:00 p.m.
