Polisena Named Landmark Player of the Year; Cohen Coach of the Year

TOWSON, MD- After going undefeated in league play and winning their first conference title, the Juniata men's tennis team is well represented on this year's All-Landmark Team. Sophomore Dean Polisena (Adelaide, Australia/St. Ignatius) was named Player of the Year for the second straight season while head coach Jason Cohen repeats as Coach of the Year.

Polisena was also selected to the first team at first doubles with freshman partner Matyas Kohout (Krhanice, Czech Republic/Gymnasium Jizni Mesto). Kohout was named to second team singles along with junior Bryan Gregory (Glen Mills, PA/Garnet Valley). Freshman Sho Sato (Shiga, Japan/Kansai Gaidai University) and junior Logan Moore (Chadds Ford, PA/Unionville) were tabbed for the second team in doubles.

Last year's Rookie of the Year, Polisena posted a dual record of 14-5 during the 2015 season and was 7-1 in Landmark play. He was named Landmark Athlete of the week on April 20 as he won both in singles and double to knock off Goucher 7-2 and clinch the #1 seed for the Eagles. In two years with the Eagles, he has a dual match record of 30-8.

Polisena and Kohout went 14-6 during the season and 7-1 in the Landmark. Polisena's doubles record is 28-11 overall. In his first season with Juniata, Kohout started the year at the third spot in singles but moved up to the second flight and went 13-3. He was named the Landmark Athlete of the Week on March 23 as he helped the Eagles defeated Catholic 8-1. He and Polisena trailed 6-3 in doubles play but rallied to win 9-8 after winning a super tie-breaker.

Gregory has enjoyed a stellar third season with JC as he has gone 17-5 overall with a 14-3 dual match record and an 8-0 record in conference play. He is the only Eagle to win eight Landmark matches. He followed up his strong regular season play with an even better postseason as he was 4-0. Gregory was the only player to win in both singles and doubles in Juniata's 5-3 win over the Gophers in the Landmark Championship match. For his effort, he was selected as the tournament Most Valuable Player.

In their first season playing in doubles, Sato and Moore have clicked together as the pair went 15-3 in dual matches and 8-0 in the Landmark. Since returning from their spring trip in mid-March, the duo has only lost one match, which came in the championship match last Saturday.

In his four years at the helm of the men's program, Cohen has an overall record of 53-23. He has led the Eagles to three straight appearances in the Landmark Tournament and two straight championship match appearances. The Eagles' Landmark title is the first in team history and his squads have a 28-7 regular season record in the Landmark and have gone undefeated for two seasons.

Juniata makes its NCAA Tournament debut on Friday when they face Messiah. The match starts at 10 a.m. on the campus of Washington and Lee.
